Terry Montoya and his Cedaredge Bruins lost their bid to advance to this year's Class 3A state softball tournament with an 8-0 loss to No. 12 Fort Lupton (14-8) in last weekend's Region 5 qualifying tournament in Arvada.
Faith Christian came into last week's regional play with an 18-5 record as the number five seed. The Bruins (9-13) were seeded 21st.
Cedaredge and Fort Lupton played in the first round of Region 5 play to see who would face Faith Christian. The Bluedevils scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second and fourth frames to take a 4-0 lead heading to the fifth. Two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings boosted Fort Lupton's lead to 8-0.
Cedaredge failed to score in the top of the seventh to end the game.
The Bruins had three hits in the game, all singles, off the bats of sophomore Ivy Kirk, junior Kaitlyn Toothaker and senior Hannah Gardner.
Junior Summer Young started in the circle for Cedaredge and worked five innings before giving way to Elle Lewis.
Cedaredge ended the season at 9-14.
