Bruins softball team defeats Aspen 19-0

Cedaredge High School enjoyed its season opener in softball with a 19-0 win over the visiting Aspen Skiers.

Brittany Kendall and Lacey Rodriguez combined efforts on the mound to produce a one-hit shutout. Kendall picked up the win with two innings of work where she gave up one hit, a walk and struck out five Aspen batters. Rodriguez had two innings that resulted in no hits, no runs and three strikeouts.

Josie Hiatt paced the winners with three hits in four plate appearances. She hammered three doubles and finished the game with eight RBIs for the Bruins. Shayna Dale was 2-2 with the bat, including a double and an RBI and scored four runs.

Hannah Gardner went 2-3 and had three RBIs in the game.

The Bruins wasted little time scoring early in the game with a 13-run barrage in the first inning. After that, it was another three tallies in the second and third innings to close out the scoring in three innings of play.

Cedaredge outhit the Skiers 14-1 and played errorless ball while Aspen had four miscues in the game.

Cedaredge's next game is in Gunnison on Sept. 3 against Faith Christian at 11 a.m. Junior varsity action is slated for 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, the Bruins travel to Basalt for doubleheader action with the first of two contest beginning at 2 p.m.
