Cedaredge High School's football team rolled over Lake County's Panthers 49-6 last Friday night in Cedaredge.
The Bruins had 387 yards of combined offense and scored seven touchdowns in the course of the game. Senior Tyler Cooper scored three times and picked up 77 yards on six carries for the Bruins.
Other Bruins who scored touchdowns were Tristan Waddell, JP Morgan, Ty Grant and Isaac Swoffer.
Anthony Antuna was credited with a safety, and Bryce Klaseen kicked five extra points to make the final score 49-6.
Waddell led Cedaredge receivers in yards with 53 on four catches and a score. Morgan had two catches for 43, and Swoffer caught a Jacob Ostrom aerial for 38 yards.
Defensively, Shawn Badding, Ethan Fritchman and Mario Madelino made five tackles each for the winners. Teammates Kyler Anderson, Jared Reynolds and Tre' Labossierre had four tackles each.
The Bruins are third in the 1A WSL with a record of 3-1 in league play and 7-1, overall. Paonia leads the team race at 4-0 and 7-1, followed by Meeker, 3-1 and 5-3.
State rankings show the Bruins at sixth, Paonia seventh and Meeker 12th. The predicted standings for state pairings show Paonia third, Meeker 10th and Cedaredge 13th.
A win in Paonia on Friday would shake things up and help give the Bruins at least a share of a league title. That contest is slated for 7 p.m. at Paonia Town Park.
The Hotchkiss-Crawford Historial Society will host its annual meeting on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2:00 at the Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss. There will be music, refreshments and a guest speaker, Robert Sibernagel. He is well known in the area as he writes regional history columns for The Daily Sentinel. He was formerly the editorial page editor for that paper for 19 years.
