Cedaredge High School's wrestling team warmed up for the annual Warrior Classic held in Grand Junction with a 40-29 warm-up victory over the visiting Meeker Cowboys on Dec. 13.
In all, there were nine forfeits, including the double forfeit at 152. The Bruins and Cowboys opened their night of wrestling at 145 pounds, with AJ Robidoux losing by a technical fall. The double forfeit at 152 left Meeker on top with a 5-0 score.
The 160-pound match was a forfeit loss for Cedaredge's Cameron Quick with Austin Crawford getting the Bruins into the win column on a 4-1 decision at 170.
David Lopez (182) and Toby Waddell (195) forfeited their matches with Taj Van der Linde (220) picking up a 7-3 win and heavyweight Derek Sanchez winning by forfeit for a 23-9 deficit heading to the lower weights.
Lane Hunsberger started the comeback at 106 with a major decision (10-2) followed by a Lucas Hoerr forfeit win at 113.
Meeker won by forfeit at 120 and the Bruins claimed wins at 126 and a Trey Geyer win by fall and two forfeits from Sean Dale (132) and Brian Hoerr (138) to complete the final winning margin of 40-29.
