Cedaredge's baseball team was busy last week with four games. The Bruins hosted Hotchkiss (2A District 3/5; 3-0, 7-1) on April 3 with the Bulldogs scoring a 14-3 win.
Cedaredge was in Eaton March 5 for a game with the Reds (6-2) and lost a 13-2 decision to the 3A Patriot League team. The Bruins' second game of the day was against 3As Tri-Peaks League Buena Vista Demons resulting in a 16-11 win.
Saturday's final game of the Northern Colorado Baseball Classic was against 3A Metro League member Peak to Peak. The Pumas cranked out an 18-5 win to leave Cedaredge with a 1-4 record for the week and 4-10 overall.
Against Hotchkiss, a 7-run second inning vaulted the Bulldogs to a 7-1 lead. Hotchkiss scored once more in the fourth and another four runs in the fifth. Cedaredge countered with two runs in the fifth to trail 12-3. Five runs in the sixth made the score 12-8.
Hotchkiss added two runs in the seventh for a 14-8 final score.
Cedaredge's Kaden Schulz was 2-4 and three RBIs to lead the Bruins' offense. Presley Pene had four RBIs on two hits (including a triple) to pace Hotchkiss' offense. Jamison Yanish added one hit and three RBIs for the winners.
Yanish was the winning pitcher with two innings of work, two hits and three strike outs. Presley Pene worked an inning and two-thirds and had five strike outs.
In Eaton, the Reds had a bag full of hot bats that pounded out 11 hits in their 13-2 win.
Eaton led 7-1 after two innings and owned a 13-2 lead after four. The Bruins failed to score in the top of the fifth to end the game.
Sean Dale had two of Cedaredge's four hits and one RBI. Jared Reynolds had the other RBI. Bryce Leafgren was Eaton's top hitter with three hits and two RBIs and Ryan Ure had two hits and five RBIs.
Against Buena Vista the Bruins were outhit 9-7 but managed to win the game. Dusty Emig had two hits and three RBIs with Isaac Blair and Dale driving in two runs each.
Buena Vista had four players with two RBIs apiece in the loss.
The Demons had an 8-5 lead after three innings but fell behind when Cedaredge rallied for eight runs in the sixth inning to take a 14-9 lead going to the seventh inning. Each team scored two runs to make the final score 16-11.
Cedaredge's final game of the week was with a powerful hitting team that pounded out 18 hits, including two triples and six doubles. Peak to Peak had a five-run first with three runs in the second and an 8-0 lead. The Bruins scored four runs in the third but gained nothing after the Pumas countered with four runs of their own to keep the lead at eight runs, 12-4.
The Pumas finished the game with six more runs and Cedaredge added one to make the final score 18-5.
Emig and Jacob Brown had doubles in the game with Emig's two-bagger producing two runs for Cedaredge.
Blair and Brian Hoerr had an RBI apiece for the winners.
Peak to Peak's Isaac Van Tol was 4-4 at the plate, including two doubles and two RBIs.
The Bruins play once this week, against Basalt on Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. and host Delta on April 16 at 4 p.m.
