Hotchkiss High School has had its difficulties getting its volleyball program back on track this season and last week's three-set loss to 2A/1A WSL second-place Vail Mountain dealt another blow to the Bulldogs' season.
The Gore Rangers are currently sitting in second place in 2A WSL standings at 11-1 in league play and 15-3 overall. Only Meeker has a better record (10-0, 17-0). Hotchkiss (1-9, 4-13) is near the bottom of the standings with only two matches remaining on its regular season schedule.
Vail Mountain started strong last Friday and kept a heavy foot on the gas for a 25-12 win in set one. Hotchkiss cut into the deficit margin in the next two sets which included scores of 25-14 and 25-21. The Bulldogs held the lead for a good portion of the time in set three before being overtaken late for the four-point loss.
Hotchkiss will host Cedaredge on Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. (varsity play) and travels to Rangely on Oct. 20 for a 3 p.m. varsity start time.
League pool play is set for Oct. 26-27 with regionals scheduled for Nov. 3.
