Hotchkiss High School's visit to Delta last Thursday, Dec. 20, was a battle of attrition. Delta was the winner of forfeits with four of six no-contests going to the Panthers.
In the contests waged on the mat, Hotchkiss walked away with points earned by competition by winning five of the seven matches featuring actual opponents, by pin, to slip past the Panthers by a 42-36 score.
Thursday's dual competition began at 126 with Delta's Ben Koch winning by forfeit. Hotchkiss' Presley Pene won by fall over Andrew Toole at 132; Sergio Campos, wrestling his first match of the season for the Bulldogs, was a winner by fall over Colby Wilson at 138; Hotchkiss' Traycer Hall won by fall over Delta's Timothy Horn at 145 and JD Miller defeated Delta's Royce Barrios by fall at 152.
Delta's Jeffery Griffith won by fall at 160; Aiden Barrios was a forfeit winner at 170; there was a double forfeit at 182; Gauge Lockhart won at 195 with a fall over Teagan Sommer; Eli Miramontes of Delta won by forfeit at 220 and Hotchkiss' Christian Matus was a forfeit winner at 285.
Hotchkiss won two of the next three lower weight matches, including Anthony Scanlon's win by fall over Ben McCash at 106 and Landen Mayberry's forfeit win at 113. Nicole Koch earned the dual's final points with a forfeit win at 120.
