Hotchkiss placed 10 wrestlers and scored 169 points to place second at the 22-team Valley Classic wrestling tournament at Center High School. Piedra Vista High School (Farmington, N.M.) won the Valley Classic crown with 181 points.
Bulldogs Landen Mayberry (113), Presley Pene (126), Sergio Campos (132) and Jace Peebles (160), all won silver at Center. At 113 pounds, Mayberry was seeded sixth and placed second, advancing to the first-place match on a semifinal, 8-6 win over Swink. In the championship round, Mayberry lost by fall (1:55) to Michael Atencio (26-0) of Rye, ranked first in Class 2A by On the Mat. Pene placed second on a 3-2 decision over Centauri, and Campos (15-3) won silver on a 9-3 decision to Monte Vista's Tyler Vigil (33-5). Jace Peebles was seeded second and lost by fall (1:16) to No. 1 seed Jace Logan of Soroco (27-1). Traycer Hall (138, 16-5) placed third on a 4-2 decision over Justin Antonio Delgado of Piedra Vista High. Heavyweight Christian Matus (18-10) placed fourth on fall 1:35 to Levi Peterson of Paonia. Robert Cochran (120, 8-4) JD Miller (145 18-15), Teagan Sommer (195, 11-17) and Ethan Guy (160, 10-14) placed fifth.

At last Friday's Center Duals, Hotchkiss was 2-0. In its win over Crowley County, Campos won by fall (1:35) over JoAllen Baker, Hall won by fall (4:40) over Tanner Howells, Guy won by fall (1:31) over Zach Auchterlonie, and Cochran won by fall (1:20) over Isaiah Camacho.
Peebles won by a 15-5 major decision over Jorge Valdez, and Pene won by a 9-0 MD over Tach Brewer. Sommer, Anthony Scanlon (106, 12-19), and Mayberry won their matches by forfeit.
HHS 42, CHS 30
In Hotchkiss' win over Centauri, all of the matches wrestled were won by pin. Peebles, Sommer, Mayberry Cochran, Pene and Campos all won at their respective weights, and Hotchkiss and Centauri each won a match by forfeit.
