Carl Chance died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at his home. He was 63.
He was born in Delta Feb. 2, 1952, to Cecil and Pearl (Wise) Chance.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss with his oldest son, Scott Chance, officiating.
Mr. Chance graduated from Delta High School in 1970.
He married Barbara Wilson May 8, 1971.
He worked as a ranch hand and an over the road truck driver.
Before moving to Fruita in 1990, he lived in Nash, Okla., where he was an active member of Bethel Hawley Baptist Church.
He worked for various ranchers and farmers and for Sunland Fields Service Company of Colorado from 2008 until he retired in 2015.
Mr. Chance is survived by his three children, Scott (Rhonda) Chance of Edgemont, S.D., Mark (Michelle) Chance of Clovis, N.M., and Cassie Chance of Nash, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a sister.

The Hotchkiss-Crawford Historial Society will host its annual meeting on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2:00 at the Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss. There will be music, refreshments and a guest speaker, Robert Sibernagel. He is well known in the area as he writes regional history columns for The Daily Sentinel. He was formerly the editorial page editor for that paper for 19 years.
