Delta County golf teams had a banner year as five players earned trips to this year's state tournament Oct. 5-6.
Delta's Panthers, after getting their golf program back, qualified two players who attended this year's state championships at Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont. Those players included juniors Logan Wood and Blake Reiher. Wood shot a 76 the first day and had an 81 on the final day for a score of 157. Reiher shot an 80 on day one and finished with a 77 and an identical score of 157. The two athletes tied with three others to tie for 31st place in this year's 4A State Golf Tournament.
Cedaredge entered three players in the Class 3A State Golf Tournament held in Gypsum at the Eagle Ranch Golf Course. The Bruins scored 287 points to place 15th in the team race. On the first day of competiton Jacob Lewis had the highest Bruins' score with his round of 92. That was good for 51st place. Peter Carlson shot a 97 for 59th and Duncan Campbell carded a 98 and placed 63rd.
When the final round had been completed, Lewis had a score of 182 to place 48th, Campbell finished tied for 67th with his two-day total of 196 and Carlson was 73rd with a 205.
Both programs will sport returning players to bolster their respective team's play next season.
On Dec. 2, officers of the Delta Police Department responded to a report of an assault. Officers spoke with a 64-year-old male with a bleeding injury on his neck.
