The Cedaredge Bruins began their week in volleyball with a dominating performance in Olathe against the Pirates. The Bruins were in Gunnison on Thursday, Sept. 13, and brought home a 3-0 win over the Cowboys.
Cedaredge, then, hosted a doubleheader on Saturday with game one win against Moffat County, 3-0, followed with an early evening battle against Roaring Fork and another 3-0 victory.
Senior Courtney Freeman and sophomore Kammie Henderson played the net well in Olathe with eight and seven kills, respectively in the three-set win; 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18.
Olathe got two kills each from seniors Ireland McKee and Maddi Brown and junior Kamryn Corzine.
Henderson scored five aces in the contest with junior teammate Reganne McIntire serving up four aces of her own.
Henderson padded her stats with team-best numbers in digs (11) and service receptions (11) with sophomore Baylee Harris dishing out 16 assists for the winners.
In Gunnison, the Cowboys stayed with Cedaredge in the first two sets before losing 25-20 and 26-24. The Bruins won by a larger margin (25-16) in set three to earn the match win.
Cedaredge had its way against the visiting Bulldogs from Craig with straight set wins, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-11.
Roaring Fork's Rams fared no better on their visit to Cedaredge losing in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-12.
The 3A WSL standings following last week's action show Aspen atop the list with its 3-0 league mark and 3-0 overall record. Cedaredge (3-0 and 7-1) is second followed by Coal Ridge (2-0 and 6-3) then Delta (3-0 and 8-2).
The Bruins faced Delta Sept. 18 in Delta and are scheduled to play at home against Gunnison (0-1 and 3-5) on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. (Varsity). Cedaredge finishes the week at home with Basalt (0-4 and 3-6) on Saturday with a 2 p.m. varsity start time.
Next week's schedule begins with a visit from Paonia's Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 2, with a 6 p.m. starting time for varsity play.
