The fourth grade class of Cedaredge Elementary School embodied the holiday spirit at their concert Wednesday, Dec. 19. Their program was one of five for the week for CES. The kindergarten and first grade classes held their concerts Dec. 17, Monday evening, the second and third grade held a combined program Tuesday, Dec. 18 and the fifth grade class finished out the week on Thursday, Dec. 20.
"We're so thankful for the support and commitment to our kids," commented principal Dan Renfrow at the fourth grade concert. He remarked how the previous night he'd never seen the gym so full.
Even that evening saw most seats filled, with eager parents and grandparents filming the little ones' program on their phones.
The fourth grade program featured holiday songs and carols from 15 countries such as France, Scandinavia, Germany and Poland. In-between songs children took turns reading about the customs for the country of the next song. While the narratives were read, a student held the flag from the corresponding country.
For example, Scandinavia has a month long holiday season that ends with a big Christmas tree bonfire "signaling the triumph of light over darkness."
Thanks to several parent volunteers the gym's decor resembled a holiday wonderland complete with penguins, Christmas trees, red and green everywhere and even a "World of Christmas" photo backdrop.
Afterwards, a bake and T-shirt sale raised funds to benefit field trips and technology for the students.
