It's been an up and down season so far for Cedaredge High School's boys' basketball team. The Bruins find themselves near the middle of league standings with a 3-3 record heading into winter break.
Meeker, 4-0, and Paonia, 6-1, are playing well and find themselves on the top rungs. West Grand and Soroco are 4-2 with Vail Christian at 3-2. Rangely is 2-2 and the Bruins, 3-3, are ahead of Hotchkiss, 1-6, and Hayden, 0-3.
Last weekend's contest against Basalt featured a fast Longhorn basketball team that could shoot and play defense. A 21-6 start for Basalt set the tone for what would be an up-tempo game. The Longhorns went on to score a 64-46 victory.
Basalt's Raul Torrez scored nine of his 20 game-high points in the first quarter, helping power the Longhorns to the fast start.
Garrett Meyers tossed in 10 points for Cedaredge in the second quarter, but Michael Glen supplied nine of Basalt's 23 points, elevating the Longhorns' lead to 44-21 at halftime.
Cedaredge came out more prepared to play in the second half and outscored Basalt 25-18.
Torrez and Glen tallied 22 points apiece in the win for Basalt. Tyler Cooper had 15 points to lead the Bruins and Meyers scored 12.
The Bruins resume play in January following Christmas vacation.
Cedarege faces Meeker at Cedaredge High School on Jan. 8 with varsity play beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Bruins travel to Rangely on Jan. 9. for JV and varsity games.
Two of the four marijuana questions on the November ballot were narrowly approved by voters in the City of Delta. Measure 2F allows the establishment of medical marijuana centers. Measure 2H permits the establishment of medical marijuana cultivation, testing, research and manufacturing facilities.
