Grand Mesa, Uncom-pahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forest officials, along with other officials, will hold a series of open houses to get feedback on the draft Land Management Plan.
The first open house runs from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Heritage Hall, 403 East Bridge St., in Hotchkiss. Additional open houses are scheduled for July 10 in Palisade, July 11 in Montrose, July 16 in Norwood, July 17 in Ridgway, and July 18 in Gunnison.
The planning team will use feedback to inform the draft land management plan and help prepare the draft Environmental Impact Statement, to include a range of reasonable alternatives.
The formal comment period begins with the publication of the Draft EIS, tentatively scheduled for winter of 2020.
The comprehensive document will guide forest management, use and protection for 10-15 years and to balance multiple uses with the restoration and maintenance of forest and water ecosystems and identify areas that may be suitable for special designations such as research of natural areas, wild and scenic rivers and wilderness.
