Since the 2018 election of the two junior councilmen Nathan Clay (District C) and Kevin Carlson (at large) and first-term Chris Ryan (at large), I have witnessed time after time a contemptuous disregard for any kind of research brought to the open session city council meetings. I know this because they never ask to see it. Here is an email response from Councilman Clay to one of his own constituents, Cynthia Hansen.
I understand your concern regarding this topic. As is stated at the very top of this article, this is an opinion piece. Please, do not confuse this with any kind of actual science. If you believe Fox News (or CNN or MSNBC) to be a reliable and credible source of factual, non-biased, peer-reviewed scientific journaling that is certainly fine. However, I do not consider any such "news" outlet to be scientifically credible in the least. As such, I must ask that you please refrain from forwarding any article of this type to me in the future. If you have a scientifically produced paper published in an accredited journal, then by all means, share it along. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. With warm regards - N."
I get the feeling that Councilman Clay just told a voting constituent to stop bothering him.
I did my own research on the article in question and found that it was produced by the NYU School of Medicine. NYU School of Medicine is one of the most reliable journals in medical research. It is right up there with the New England Journal of Medicine and my guess is he never read it. Always remember, Councilman Clay by himself has no power, but when backed by Carlson and Ryan it results in a 3-2 with the appearance of minds made up long before it goes to an open council meeting. If the people don't start coming to city council meetings and make their voices heard, then the gang of three will just see it as your approval.
In regards to the debate on the effects marijuana is having on our children, I have witnessed solid citizens of many generations like Orval Procter of Taco Time, Brad Davis of Davis Clothing, Hartland Clubb of Clubb Stores, Cynthia Hansen and Sheriff Mark Taylor just to name a few, all ignored. Our city council can no longer be the voice of all people when run by three and not five. Stop the gang of three.
