Every Monday at 7 p.m., the Cedaredge Community Band meets at the Assembly of God to rehearse. The group usually welcomes between seven and 10 members, including director Grady Weiszbrod. Although the group hasn't performed anywhere other than the Cedaredge Parade of Lights, it practices hard every week, perfecting its diverse repertoire. Occasionally, it practices in the alleyway in downtown Cedaredge.

The group consists of typical band instrumentation, with brass, woodwinds and a piano accompaniment. Many members of the band picked up their instruments for the first time in years to join the group. The small band plays traditional marches, classical ballads and holiday pieces.

"We're experiencing some growing pains at the moment, but we have a good nucleus of players with a good heart. They're persistent and as a band, we're persevering. We're absolutely interested in anyone who can play a band instrument at any skill level, even if you haven't played in a long time. One of our players hadn't touched his instrument in 50 years!" director Grady Weiszbrod said at last week's practice, when only five members attended rehearsal.

He encourages musicians of all ages to attend rehearsals on Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Cedaredge Assembly of God. Rehearsals usually last approximately an hour and 15 minutes.
