On Saturday, June 29, Pioneer Town volunteers and Surface Creek Valley Historical Society hosted their annual "Night on the Town" event.

As the hot day turned in to a warm evening, kids began playing games, participating in a historical scavenger hunt, and collecting prizes.

Community members listened to live music provided by David and Tamara Hauze. Some people moseyed around with hotdogs as Rotary Club volunteers manned the barbecue, while yet others found refreshments in the Lizard Head Saloon.

Over the course of this laid back, enjoyable, and fun evening Pioneer Town had approximately 300 participants.

The silent auction tables were covered with a colorful array of plentiful baskets, gift certificates and goodies, all donated by local businesses.

Kids who finished the scavenger hunt won prizes supplied from the Pioneer Town gift shop.

In the end, Sherry Henrie, the evening's coordinator felt pleasantly surprised by the event's outcome.

"The evening was a great success and we had huge community involvement. I think a lot of people really enjoyed themselves," said Henrie.

She hopes that the locals feel pride during events like "Night on the Town" by seeing their contributions being appreciated.

The money raised by this event will go toward expanding the gift shop.

Henrie said the expansion is a priority in order that the archives can be stored in a climate controlled area, to preserve them as long as possible.
