The Cedaredge Rotary Club's Summer Scramble doesn't tee-off until the end of August but club members are already hard at work seeking business sponsors and selling raffle tickets. Funds from sponsorships and ticket sales go to support college scholarships for local high school seniors.
The golf tournament is the major fundraiser for the active club which also holds a Memorial Day barbecue, sells pies at October's Applefest, and hosts an annual community Christmas dinner. For the first time this year the club will sell ice cream sandwiches during the Cedaredge Fourth of July celebration at town park. As with its annual golf tournament, proceeds from other Rotary events also go to support local scholarships.
This year the Cedaredge Rotary Club awarded $6,500 to graduates of Cedaredge High School. Recipients included Maxwell Moore, who received a Kittie Udd Memorial Scholarship and Peter Sandels, Azalee Hoffbauer, Marian Blanks and Sawyer Carey, all of whom received Max Kendrick Memorial Scholarships.
All during July and August club members will be contacting community businesses in person or mailing personalized letters to Surface Creek Valley enterprises requesting sponsorship assistance. Sponsorship amounts range from $100-$1,000 and, depending on the amount donated, the sponsoring business will be allowed to enter 1-4 players and will be provided with a range of advertising opportunities during the tournament.
The annual summer scramble event takes place on Saturday, August 31, at the Cedaredge Golf Club. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start commencing at 8:30 a.m. The Rotary Club is seeking four-person teams for the tournament. The entry fee is $65 per player which includes the round of golf and the use of a cart as well as lunch and door prizes.
Raffle tickets are currently being sold by Rotary Club members and winning tickets will be drawn on August 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the golf clubhouse. Raffle prizes are $250 (first prize); $100 (second prize); and $50 (third prize). Winners need not be present to collect their prize.
And there will be additional prizes to keep the golfers going including a brand new car. The Delta-based Hellman Motor Company has donated a vehicle which will be awarded to the lucky participant who sinks a hole-in-one.
Golf participants can register at the Cedaredge Golf Course Club House at 500 SE Jay Avenue in Cedaredge up until 7:30 on August 31 or obtain a mail-in registration form from any Cedaredge Rotarian.
