Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes signed a letter giving Delta County's support for the Foreign Trade Zone proposed for the region by Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce. Montrose County and Garfield County have also joined with Mesa County in support for the Foreign Trade Zone.
The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce plans to apply to the U.S. Foreign Trade Zones Board for authority to serve sites located within these counties based on their businesses' trade-related needs.
The Foreign Trade Zone would enable a U.S. Customs Office and custom officials to be located in Grand Junction.
Commissioner Suppes said that customs officers in Grand Junction would help local businesses trading out of the country and save those businesses money.
On Dec. 2, officers of the Delta Police Department responded to a report of an assault. Officers spoke with a 64-year-old male with a bleeding injury on his neck.
