The search is on for a new attorney for the Town of Crawford. Long-time attorney Jim Brown informed the town council several months ago that he was stepping down after the April election.
At its work session on Feb. 21, the council reviewed proposals from two firms, J. Davis Reed, P.C. in Montrose and Hoskin Farina & Kampf P.C. in Grand Junction.
It was pointed out during discussion that the law office of J. Davis Reed is working with the towns of Hotchkiss and Paonia.
Mayor Wanda Gofforth asked council members to review the proposals, and to be prepared to vote on a new town attorney at the regular meeting on March 7.
A collaborative effort between the Delta County Sheriff's Office and municipal law enforcement agencies throughout Delta County has resulted in a proposal for a 1 percent sales tax increase to fund public safety. A PowerPoint presentation titled "Back the Badge" is starting to make the rounds at city/town council meetings, service club luncheons and other events.
