The Town of Paonia selected Dan Dean as the interim town manager following Jane Berry's resignation. Friday was Berry's last day at Town Hall, although she officially remains employed by the town through Sept. 24 while she uses up her accrued vacation time. At the Aug. 23 board meeting Berry said she is available to answer questions until the final official day of her employment.
In executive session, trustees unanimously approved contract terms for Dean, said Mayor Charles Stewart. The former town manager of Mead accepted and executed the contract last week and reported to work on Monday.
"We're very glad there were three qualified candidates who were available, and that Mr. Dean accepted the offer," and was available to begin immediately, said Mayor Charles Stewart. His hiring will allow the town to take time in seeking a permanent town administrator.
Dean was one of three applicants with prior experience in municipal management considered by the board of trustees for the position. "All three were very qualified," said Stewart, and could have easily been the interim manager and done a fine job. The sense from the board, said Stewart, was that Dean was the best match for the job.
Two of the four marijuana questions on the November ballot were narrowly approved by voters in the City of Delta. Measure 2F allows the establishment of medical marijuana centers. Measure 2H permits the establishment of medical marijuana cultivation, testing, research and manufacturing facilities.
