David A. Stephens died Nov. 29, 2016, in Milford, Conn. He was 77.
He was born in Delta Aug. 9, 1939, to William and Marcella Stephens.
He graduated from Delta High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Navy for five years. He earned an associate degree in business from Sacred Heart College in Fairfield, Conn., and spent 32 years working for Southern New England Telephone Company. He retired in 1994 as a building maintenance foreman. He later monitored the spending of public housing funds for the towns of Norwich and Stratford, Conn.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening, spending time outdoors, reading, genealogy, photography, country western music and cheering for the Denver Broncos and the UConn Women's Huskies. He was a member of the Milford Community Garden for more than 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Florence "Dee" Stephens; a son, David M. Stephens; siblings, Everett Stephens of Delta, Marvin (Linda) Stephens of Austin, Jerry (Kay) Stephens of Plattsville, Wis., and Ruth (Ken) McKinsey of Battle Mountain, Nev.; siblings-in-law, Rosemarie Donohue of Milford, Conn., and Joseph (Dottie) Viola of Deland, Fla.; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by siblings-in-law Ted Donohue and Kathleen and David Oliver.
A graveside service has taken place at St. Mary Cemetery in Milford.

During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
