The first time Delta and Hotchkiss faced each other this season was in a scrimmage session earlier in the year. The Panthers enjoyed a good outing while the Bulldogs struggled to find its offense and consistency on defense. In the first round game between the two teams at this year's First Colorado National Bank tournament the Bulldogs had no memory of that first encounter and played evenly with the upper division Panthers for the first eight minutes. Even though the Panthers won the game 81-53, Hotchkiss played with a spirited, never-die attitude to the end.
Delta got six points from Andrew Baier in the first quarter and Alexis Fausto added five in Delta's 18-12 run.
Delta's Joe Bules and Hotchkiss' Jacob Stucker took over the game's offensive spotlight for their respective teams with eight and seven points in a 21-15 second quarter run for Delta.
The Panthers scored 21 points in each of the third and fourth quarters to post their final tally of 81 points. Hotchkiss scored 11 and 15 points in the same time span for its final score of 53 points.
Stucker's 16 points led Hotchkiss' offense with Evan Mattison next high with eight points.
Delta got 17 points from Fausto and Bules, and Baier netted 10 points to give the Panthers three players with double digit scoring.
The Panthers and Eagles played for the boys division FCNB tournament title on Saturday, Dec. 22.
Results of the title game and consolation finals for the two-day tournament are scheduled to appear in the Jan. 2 issue of the DCI.
