Delta competes in two track meets

Delta's girls and boys were in Parachute for the Cardinal Open April 2 and competed in the Frank Woodburn on Saturday.

Delta's girls won their third track meet of the season with 98.5 points in Grand Valley and the boys finished ninth with 33 points. There were 12 teams in each division.

Delta tracksters found last week's Frank Woodburn more difficult to achieve top five finishes. There were 18 girls teams and 16 boys competing for the top eight places. Delta finished fourth in girls competition with 69 points while the boys scored 45.5 points to finish seventh.

Cardinal Open

First place finishes for the girls included Remi Baldwin (300 hurdles, 51.08), Kaley St. Peter (long jump, 16-8.5), 400m relay (53.80) and the 3200m relay with a time of 10:38.24.

Finishing second in Parachute was Keely Porter (shot put, 37-1.5) and Reagan Clay (discus, 97-1.25.

Third place finishes went to Clay (shot put, 31-10.75) and the 800 sprint medley relay in 2:11.53.

Tayler Huntley (200m), Emma Corbasson (800m) Sara Geddes (high jump) finished fifth in their events.

Delta's boys had first place finishes in the 400m relay (47.18) and 3200m relay (8:59.11).

Delta's only other top five finish came in the 800m relay, which finished third in 1:37.99.

Frank Woodburn

Delta's girls recorded just one first place finish with St. Peter soaring to one of her best distances in long jump with a season best 17-9.

There was one second place finish with the 3200m relay team recording a season best time of 10:42.62.

Third place finishers included Baldwin (100m hurdles, season best 17.04), Geddes (high jump, 4-10) and Porter (shot put, 36-5.25).

Delta's 400m relay team also placed third after recording a season best time of 52.63.

Fourth place finishes went to Porter (discus, season best 103-8), the 800m sprint medley relay team (2:05.98) and the 1600m relay team (4:25.96).

Finishing fifth was Marcy Schaal (200m, season best 27.37).

On the boys side, John Ames and Gauge Lockhart brought home first place finishes. Ames ran a season best 4:38.81 in the 1600m and was just shy of the Delta High School mark. Lockhart, a baseball and track athlete at Delta, participated in last weekend's Frank Woodburn Invitational where he placed first in shot put (45-7 and second in discus, 138-1, both season bests).

The Panthers' 400m relay team had a season best 45-28 to finish third.

Delta's 800m (season best, 1:36.25) and 3200m (9:20.39) relay teams had fifth place finishes for the day.
