Delta council is upholding the will of the voters

By Ryan Crick

Dear Editor:

I wanted to thank the Delta City Council for their work and due diligence on the marijuana issue. I want to address Mr. Schaible, and his continued trolling of this council.

I understand that Mr. Schaible is against marijuana and that is his opinion. My problem is that he seems to miss the point. The council is doing their jobs! The voters of the City of Delta, which Mr. Schaible is not part of, voted to allow medical marijuana to be sold. The council had a period to analyze and decide how to zone and regulate the new industry that will come to town. This is one of, if not the most regulated industry in the country, and in my opinion the business owners should have to abide by the same zoning and regulations as say a new liquor store.

Mr. Schaible seems to ignore the medical benefits of this industry and how many people will be helped by the ability to buy their medicine here in town. He continues to speak of articles that claim marijuana is a devil drug and has bad health consequences. I would invite him to talk to some of the people going into a medical marijuana business, and find out what ailments this medicine is helping. I dare to say he will find many older citizens looking to help their pain, parents that are giving it to their children to slow or stop seizures, cancer patients that need it because no other prescribed drugs help. This is not a devil drug, no person has ever overdosed on marijuana, and I dare to say it helps so many more people than it will ever hurt.

There are so many laws and regulations on how this can be used. Let's let this new industry come to town and be a positive member of our community that should be regulated and watched just like any other business. It is time for people to attend our meetings and thank the council members for the hard work they do. Speak up and let your representatives know how you feel and get out and vote. I want to thank all five members for their work and hope they know the vast majority of this community are happy they are upholding the will of the voting citizenry.
