The 2018 state golf tournament at Boulder Country Golf Club was intimidating for many competitors last week. The chance to play at the state's highest level of competition was the ultimate goal for those who played the course.
According to Delta golf coach Jeff Reiher, "The facility was very nice and the staff and members made everyone feel welcome." That welcoming gesture may have alleviated some anxiety.
Delta senior Rowyn Carmichael carried Delta's colors to a two-day total of 169 and finished 46th overall. Junior Atley Harris shot a two-day total of 190 to tie for 78th.
"I was proud of these young men. They represented our golf team well," quoted Reiher.
Aspen was the team titlist for 3A with Kent Denver claiming individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 139, which was one under par.
The course was in great shape for the state tournament championships. Coach Reiher did pass along one other note concerning play. "The greens were tough with lots of undulations with tough pin placements. But that's expected for high level tournaments."
Cedaredge's Czech Republic female foreign exchange student, Lucie Sachova, finished with a two-day total of 187 to place 75th.
On Dec. 2, officers of the Delta Police Department responded to a report of an assault. Officers spoke with a 64-year-old male with a bleeding injury on his neck.
