It's the time of the year when volleyball teams on the bubble need to find that winning combination to secure a post-season playoff berth. The top 32 are the teams that generally make the playoff pairings and Delta's Panthers are resting in 25th place in Class 3A volleyball rankings.
Delta split a pair of 3A WSL games last week, falling to league leading Coal Ridge 3-1 and defeating Olathe 3-0. The Panthers are fourth in the 3A WSL race with a 6-3 league mark and 12-7 overall showing. Coal Ridge is 9-0 and 13-6 with Cedaredge second at 9-1 and 16-2. Aspen's Skiers are third with records of 6-1 and 15-5.
Delta traveled to New Castle last week in hopes of possibly moving up in league standings. The Titans had little sympathy for the Panthers and played their way to a 3-1 win with scores of 21-25, 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14.
Junior Sara Geddes played well at the net and accounted for 14 of Delta's points with kill shots. Geddes figured high in digs with 10 and service receptions with 19. Junior Haylin McCulloch led the way in digs for the Panthers with 11 and senior Lauren Davey finished with nine. McCulloch was the service reception leader with 25 and junior Madi Gieck had 12.
Senior Abby Carlson had 20 assists for the Panthers while freshman Erika Kuta had three of the Panthers' seven blocks on the evening.
Olathe's Pirates were in town on Oct. 17 and failed to win a set in a 3-0 loss to Delta.

Abby Carlson dished out 25 assists and McCulloch had 10 service receptions for the winners.
The Panthers end regular season play with Palisade Oct. 26 (12 noon), Valley the same day (5 p.m.) and Cedaredge Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. at Coal Ridge.
