Delta had few answers for the Bulldogs in a rematch game. Palisade took advantage of numerous mistakes and poor shooting by the Panthers to sweep Delta in its two-game series for the season. The Bulldogs rolled to a 67-36 decision in 4A WSL play. In a previous game played in December the Bulldogs scored a 39-point win, 51-12.
Last Tuesday the Bulldogs scored 16 more points and allowed Delta 23 more points in their win.
The Panthers were in Gypsum to play Eagle Valley on Friday, Jan. 22 and finished the week at home against Glenwood Springs.
Bulldogs 67, Delta 36
Palisade's Ashlyn Brown scored nine of Palisade's 18 points while the Bulldog's defense limited Delta to just six points in the opening quarter.
Second-quarter action was closer, but the Bulldogs outscored Delta, 12-9, for a 40-15 halftime lead.
Palisade kept the momentum in second-half play and started with a 15-7 run in the third quarter. Christa Brown paced the Bulldogs with seven points in the period. Emily Nortnik went to work in the low post for Delta and scored five points for the Panthers.
Anita Ramos sparked a fourth-quarter run by the Bulldogs with 10 points, and Nortnik scored seven as Palisade outscored Delta 22-14 over the final eight minutes of play.
Nortnik finished with 14 points for the Panthers, and Ashlyn Brown led the Bulldogs, and all scorers, with 17 points. Christa Brown was next high for the Bulldogs with 16.
EV 40, Delta 37
Even though the Panthers lost the game, it felt like a win as Delta (3-6, 6-8) played the Devils (6-2, 5-9) tough before losing by three points.
An opening quarter run set the Panthers back 15-9 heading into the second frame.
Delta fought back and took a 23-20 lead with a 14-5 surge of its own in the second period.
The game slipped away from the Panthers in the third quarter after Eagle Valley had a stronger offensive effort, 15-9, to reclaim the lead.
Neither team was effective on offense, with each squad scoring just five points to leave Delta on the negative side of a 40-37 score.
Lily Lockhart and Nortnik kept the Panthers close with 12 and 11 points respectively. Dani Sakala and Jenna Sutliff finished with five points each for the Panthers.
Delta 55, GS 38
The Panthers lost an eight-point contest to the Demons in December. The most recent contest between the two teams was one of Delta's best efforts of the season with the Panthers earning a 17-point victory, 55-38.
Delta, using the scoring of Nortnik's seven points, bolted to a 13-5 advantage after one period of action.
Nortnik added nine more points to her scoring totals in the second quarter, with the Panthers keeping an eight-point lead at halftime, 26-18.
It was all Delta in the second half as Lockhart began making the most of her post-play with eight of her 11 points for the game.
Saydee Culver contributed six points in the second half and finished with eight points for Delta. The Panthers outscored Glenwood Springs 29-22 in the second half to post a 55-38 WSL win.
Nortnik had 21 points for Delta and Lockhart added another 11 to the winning cause. Tatum Peterson had 10 points for the Demons.
Delta is at Battle Mountain this Friday, Jan. 29, for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
The Panthers are scheduled to host Rifle (6-2, 10-3) on Feb. 2 with a 6 p.m. starting time.
