Delta's boys had a good basketball week with wins over Aspen (61-40) and Gunnison (61-39).
The two wins vaulted the Panthers into third place in a tough 3A WSL.
Basalt's Longhorns (5-0 and 14-1) remain on top of league standings with Coal Ridge (4-1 and 10-5) sitting in second place. Delta (3-1 and 8-7) is ahead of Roaring Fork (3-2 and 10-4), Grand Valley (3-2 and 8-7) and Cedaredge (1-4 and 6-8), which is a threat no matter what its record is, and will have to play at or near its best games through the final stretch over the next two weeks.

The Panthers left little doubt as to what they wanted to accomplish against the Skiers. Run and run some more. A 14-5 first quarter helped establish the running game and helped send Delta to a 29-17 halftime lead.
Another 32 points in the second half secured the 61-40 victory over the Skiers.
Beau Byers swerved and twisted his way through a porous defense, and hit shots outside the paint, to score 14 points for the Panthers. Teammates Jonathan Robinson and Dylan Hollenbeck chipped in 12 points each.
Tre' Johnson went four for four at the free throw line.
Aspen's AJ Dietrick had 20 points for the Skiers with Zack George adding 11.

The last time these two teams played was Jan. 1 and the Cowboys stole a 55-54 victory. That game was on the minds of players and coaches alike at Delta High School.
Missed shots and poor execution was the culprit in the Jan. 1 loss. Delta knew it would be in the game if they corrected mistakes made in the previous game.
Correct them it did.Delta exploded out of the tipoff and raced to a 17-8 first-quarter lead, and with the exception of a 20-point run by the Cowboys in the third period, were never threatened and refused to look back.
Jaspar Carmichael unleashed a torrid shooting exhibition and scored 25 points for the Panthers. He finished with seven 2-pointers, a 3-pointer and was eight of 10 from the free throw line. His 12 points in the fourth quarter sparked a 17-7 Delta run to finish the game.
Joe Bules continues to provide solid play off the bench for Delta. He finished with 11 points in the game. And, Andrew Baier, who also came off the bench, was good for another nine points, with seven coming in the second quarter to spark a Delta 13-point run.
Lane Mangum scored 12 points to lead Gunnison scorers.
The Panthers faced Cedaredge Feb. 7 and are at Roaring Fork (Carbondale) this Saturday with a 4 p.m. tipoff scheduled.
