The 11th annual Trauma Conference will be hosted by Delta County Memorial Hospital in partnership with St. Mary's Hospital, Community Hospital, Montrose Memorial Hospital, WRETAC and Care Flight on May 2-3.
The purpose of the event is to help regional trauma and emergency professionals have the opportunity to come together and learn more about hot topics in trauma all while earning CME (continuing medical education) at a really great price, according to Jillian Emmons, RN, trauma coordinator for Delta County Memorial Hospital. "We all have been working hard to bring qualified speakers from around the state to the conference to help benefit everyone."
The first day of the conference will conclude with a mock helicopter crash. "Everyone needs the opportunity to be involved in a mass casualty exercise and know how to respond appropriately," stated Emmons. "Care Flight will be there with their helicopter, smoke machines going off and actors lying on the ground injured. We will be transporting [the actors] to the hospital from the scene, getting the rest of the hospital involved."
"We are excited to be hosting the Trauma Conference for the 11th year. I think it is important to learn and work alongside our regional partners," Jason Cleckler, Delta County Hospital CEO. "This kind of education is invaluable to the trauma team, and we are fortunate to offer this kind of opportunity on the Western Slope."
