Delta High School dominated a visiting Palisade Bulldogs' softball team in a doubleheader sweep Sept. 4 by scores of 13-3 and 14-4.
Sophomore Hailee Ruble went the distance for Delta and improved her season record to 4-1 with the win.
Ruble had plenty of help behind her with a 14-hit attack and paced the Panthers offense with a triple and three RBIs of her own.
Senior Jenna Sutliff hit her third home run of the season and had a double to go with her two RBIs in the win.
Other two-hit performers for Delta included senior Makayla Kortz with a pair of doubles and an RBI and sophomore Keely Porter with two RBIs. Senior Ashley Lahoe had one hit and two RBIs.
Sutliff provided stellar play at shortstop with a diving stop to throw out a Bulldogs' runner and turned in the game's only double play (unassisted). Sutliff hit her home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game via the 10-run rule with her walk-off homer.
Game two had a similar format as the opener. In game one the Panthers jumped on top with a 12-run explosion and cruised to the victory. Game two's beginning had a 4-1 start after one inning but blossomed to 8-1 after two innings with a four-run fifth closing out the game, 14-4.
Porter and Lahoe finished the game with three hits each and four and three RBIs, respectively.
Senior Desiree Garcia picked up her second win against one loss for the Panthers, scattering five hits and four runs over five innings of work.
A doubleheader day with Basalt was rained out (Sept. 5) and will be played at a later time.
Delta plays in Gypsum against Eagle Valley Sept. 15 with an 11 a.m. game time and begins the following week (Sept. 18) at Cedaredge with a 3 p.m. start.
