The Panthers will take a young team into this weekend's 3A Region 1 tournament.

Delta has three returning regional placers. Delta's only senior, Aiden Barrios, is favored to repeat his win at 170 pounds. At 195, junior Gauge Lockhart placed third in 2018. His bracket has three top-10 wrestlers in the state as ranked by On the Mat: Caleb Janowsky of Pagosa Springs (No. 2), John Foutz of Bayfield (No. 3), and Lockhart, who is ranked third in the region and seventh in the state.

Sophomore Ben Koch (126), who finished sixth at 120 pounds his freshman year, is favored to place in the top four.

On the Mat rankings considers all top-10 ranked teams and all ranked wrestlers in its regional breakdown.

Junior Colby Wilson (138), sophomores Jarrin Crandall (132), Jeffrey Griffith (160), Brandon Butler (182), and Eli Miramontes (220), and freshmen Timothy Horn (145) and Royce Barrios (152) will vie for their first state qualifications.

Delta is hosting the tournament, which will be wrestled on five mats. Over the season, "We've beat some key guys, lost to some key guys," said head coach Clayton Curtis. "Some of the boys will have to beat some of those key guys" if they want to advance to next week's state tournament in Denver. "It can be done," said Curtis.
