In an early game played last week, Delta High School's softball team hosted Gunnison's Cowboys in a 3A District 5 contest.

Delta lit a fire around the base paths in the first inning to score seven runs on its way to a 13-3 decision.

The Cowboys found some heat of their own in the third inning and scored three runs cutting Delta's lead to four at 10-7 with the Panthers coming to bat. Delta responded with another three runs of its own to move the scoring margin back to seven runs at 10-3.

Both teams took the fourth inning off before Delta added the final three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth to end the game, 13-3.
