Delta High School's soccer team had its express train slowed down this past week with tough games against Crested Butte and Roaring Fork. Both matches were on the road and proved to be difficult contests. Crested Butte and Delta finished their Sept. 6 game in a tie, 2-2, and Roaring Fork put together a 4-1 victory in Carbondale.
The Titans of Crested Butte scored once in each of the regular halves while Delta managed two goals in the second half for a 2-2 tie. After two overtime periods were played, neither team could find the net with a goal and the game ended in a tie, 2-2.
Martin Corral netted his eighth goal of the season and Jose Pantoja picked up his second score of the season for the Panthers.
Saturday's (Sept. 8) match in Carbondale had the Panthers playing catch-up from the start with the Rams taking a 2-0 lead to halftime.
Pantajo scored Delta's lone goal in the second half while Roaring Fork tallied another two goals for the 4-1 victory.
The Panthers (3-1-1 overall) begin league play Sept. 13 at home against Aspen (2-1).
Two of the four marijuana questions on the November ballot were narrowly approved by voters in the City of Delta. Measure 2F allows the establishment of medical marijuana centers. Measure 2H permits the establishment of medical marijuana cultivation, testing, research and manufacturing facilities.
