Delta visited Olathe on Dec. 13 to face the Pirates in a non-league contest. In girls competition, Delta led for most of the game and held on for a 54-53 win. The Panther boys started fast and led from start to finish in an 89-59 victory.

In junior varsity action, Delta's girls claimed a one-point victory, 34-33, with Aubrey Jones scoring 14 points. The boys lost their game by a 66-52 decision. Joe Bules paced the junior squad with 14 points and Felipe Bedoy added 11.

Megan Sandoval and Emily Baier scored four points each in the first quarter helping the Panthers take a 12-10 lead. Olathe stayed with Delta and trailed the Panthers 23-22 at halftime.

An 11-point run in the third quarter enabled the Pirates to take a 33-32 lead going to the final period.

Baier's eight points in the final frame helped the Panthers score 22 while the defense allowed Olathe to score 20, with the help of four 3-pointers, three from Miranda Pacheco.

Pacheco tallied 22 points to lead all scorers in the game.

Delta's leading scorers were Emily Nortnik and Baier with each scoring 14 points. Saydee Culver's 3-point goal and a common goal helped the Panthers keep pace when Olathe threatened to pull away late in the game.

Delta 89, Olathe 59

Delta raced to a 19-9 lead after one period of play in Olathe. Seven players figured in the scoring for Delta with Kyle Mock's six points sparking the offensive run.

Each team found the nets often in the second quarter with each team scoring 24 points. Mock and Jon Robinson had six points each and Logan Freed had five.

Olathe's Jorge Gonzalez caught fire in the second stanza and burned the nets for 17 points, including four 3-point goals. Delta held a 43-33 lead at halftime.

The Panthers' Jaspar Carmichael hit three shots from beyond the arc to begin his offensive efforts in the second half. Carmichael had a trey in each of the opening half quarters and would finish with six 3-balls before the night was finished. With Carmichael's long range scoring, and two other Panthers scoring four or more points in the frame, Delta poured in 25 points while allowing just 13 points for the Pirates.

Carmichael finished the fourth quarter with seven points and Delta scored 21 points to make the final score 89-59.

Delta had five players score in double figures. Carmichael led the way with 22 followed by Mock's 19, Robinson's 15, Beau Byers' 11 and Logan Freed's 10.

Olathe's Gonzalez matched Carmichael's 22 points and Daniel Vernon added 12.

Joe Bules scored 14 points in a junior varsity loss, 66-52 to Olathe, and Aubre Jones netted 14 points in a 34-33 win for the girls junior varsity.
