Former Paonia resident Richard C. "Dick" McGaughey Jr. died on Jan. 17, 2018, in Omaha, Neb. He was 85.
He was born May 7, 1932, in Broken Bow, Neb., to Claude and Darrelene McGaughey. He graduated from Callaway High School in 1950 and received his pharmacy degree from Creighton University in 1956, after serving in the Navy.
In 1957, he married Betty in Grand Junction. He worked as a pharmacist for Mesa Drug and moved to Paonia in 1966, when he purchased Hays Drug Store. He was a resident of Paonia for over 40 years.
After retirement, he lived in Grand Junction and Omaha, Neb.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty of Omaha, Neb.; sister, Karen (Neal) of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Ric (Jill) of Paonia and Shaun (Amy) of Omaha, Neb.; and grandchildren, Shaun, Madison and Kyler, all of Omaha.
Services have taken place in Omaha.

Two of the four marijuana questions on the November ballot were narrowly approved by voters in the City of Delta. Measure 2F allows the establishment of medical marijuana centers. Measure 2H permits the establishment of medical marijuana cultivation, testing, research and manufacturing facilities.
