Cedaredge resident Richard "Dick" A. Miklich died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. He was 90.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church.

Mr. Miklich was born in Denver Jan. 8, 1926, to Anton "AJ" and Ethel (Jones) Miklich. He spent his childhood and attended school in Denver and graduated from Manual Training High School in 1942. He received a degree in law enforcement from the University of Colorado.

On Sept. 2, 1949, he married Doris Nerim in Denver.

Mr. Miklich served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation radioman first class during World War II.

He worked for the Denver Police Department until retiring in 1975. After moving to Cedaredge in 1975, Mr. Miklich was Delta County sheriff for 12 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church, the past master Perfection Lodge #193 in Denver and past master Delta Lodge #62 in Delta, York Rite and Scottish Rite, a life member of VFW Post #9221, a life member of American Legion Post #104 in Delta, Shrine El Jebel Temple, Grand Masters Club of Colorado and Royal Order of Scotland. He was a past grand master of the Masons of Colorado and three-time past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star #129 - Spruce chapter.

He enjoyed doing yard work, playing pool and taking in stray animals to give them a home.

Mr. Miklich is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Miklich; a son, Richard Miklich of Cañon City; and a sister, Eleanor Alt of Parker.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Miklich; and a sister, Phyllis Wilhem.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Salt Lake City, Utah, or to the Cedaredge animal shelter.
