Delta County has been the subject of recent news articles stemming from a meme that was posted on Facebook. Linda Sorenson, chair of the Delta County GOP Central Committee, has stated she exercised "bad judgment" in sharing the meme.
The rhetoric that concerns the elected officials of Delta County is the stereotyping of our county as "racist." The people of Delta County, the elected officials, and the Republicans as a whole are by no means racist. It is not who we are, nor how we conduct business.
To stereotype an entire county or organization based on the words of a select few is to condone the behavior which gives rise to prejudice and bigotry.
Delta County is a beautiful place to live and visit, and should be judged based on our work ethic, spectacular vistas, locally owned businesses, and friendly residents who call Delta County home and strive to make our county an ever better place.
