Eagles basketball teams still undefeated

The Paonia girls basketball team remains undefeated after it opened conference play last Thursday with a 62-16 win over visiting Caprock Academy (Grand Junction).

With a game-high 10 points that included two three-point goals, Carly Horn was named "Player of the Game." Senior Poppy Lightfoot scored seven points and had three offensive rebounds. On defense, Lightfoot had eight of the team's 36 steals for the game. Junior Kiley Olson had six total rebounds, two steals, and two turnovers.

On the boys side, David Lozano scored 16 points and Soul Connelly added 13 in Paonia's conference-opening, 50-8 win over Caprock. With 16 points, David Lozano was high scorer; Soul Connolly added 13 points. The Eagles were 12-for-16 from the line.

The wins give both teams a 3-0 record heading into week three of competition. They will host Class 3A Coal Ridge this Friday. Both Coal Ridge teams start the week with a 3-3 win-loss record.
