Eagles win twin-bill against Rangely nine

Following a week plagued with errors, very little got past the Paonia defense in its two-game series against Rangely last Thursday.

In its opening 2-0 win, ace pitcher Soul Connolly pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and throwing nine K.

First baseman Jai Petmezas scored the first run on a sacrifice out by Gunner Putman in the bottom of the second inning. In the fifth inning Grey Neal slid across home plate on a Carlos Lozano single.

Paonia won game two, 13-4. The Eagles had 15 hits and 13 earned runs. They ended the game early, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning.

The Eagles are now 4-0 in 2A District 3/5. The Eagles have seven more games before playoff season begins on May 10. In their final home games they host Basalt (0-6, 3A WSL) at 3 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, April 26, they host rival Hotchkiss at 4 p.m.
