Several weeks ago I had lunch at Delicious Orchards where I noted a sign that warned of West Nile which Ed Marston apparently contracted. It could have been any of us but it was Ed. Over many years Ed Marston and I had become personal friends though sharing different ideologies. I am deeply saddened by Ed's unexpected passing and will miss the intelligent conversations we had on just about everything.
I want to express to Betsy my sorrow at her husband's passing. Words can not express how much of a loss this is to me. I mean that. I admired all Ed's contributions from the High Country News to so many other things he lent his energy to including the hours of email and conversations we had. I am a better person having known Ed. So so sorry, Betsy. All my love and hope for the best.
