Delta residents will likely vote on legalizing the sale, cultivation, and production of marijuana within city limits. And the prohibitionists are going to do their best to scare you into voting against it.
They are going to tell you that it is a "gateway drug," while ignoring the fact that Colorado is currently an outlier in the national opioid crisis. Opioid abuse in Colorado is declining because of legal access to a safer alternatives for painkillers.
They are going to tell you crime is going to go up, while ignoring the overall reduction in crime not just in Colorado but also in other states that have fully or partially legalized sales.
They are going to claim that your children are at risk, when in fact adolescent use of marijuana has actually decreased in Colorado. Also, if you teach your children to be responsible -- pretty much like you are expected to do with sex, alcohol, and other adult-oriented topics -- chances are strong that they will be fine.
They are going to tell you that it is going to cost the city more than the money they generate from it, while ignoring the budget surpluses and increased revenue for municipalities like Ridgway, Palisade, or DeBeque where sales were legalized.
They will cite "research" conducted by questionable sources -- sources like the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, a federally funded police association with an admitted anti-marijuana bias that publishes figures not supported by any peer reviewed journals.
Whatever you do, please stick to the facts and don't allow fear to decide for you.
