Autumn is just around the corner, nights and mornings are growing colder -- which means it's a perfect time for another "Five Alarm Chili Cook-Off." The Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the town's volunteer fire department to launch the firefighter's 17th annual fundraising event.
It all begins on Thursday, Oct. 4, with judging from 4-5 p.m. and serving from 5-8 p.m. at the Cedaredge Fire Station at the intersection of SW 2nd Avenue and South Grand Mesa Drive (Hwy 65).
The event will mark the start of the town's giant Applefest celebration and chili enthusiasts are urged to enter their creations in the cook-off. There is no entry fee and rules and application forms are available from the Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce at 245 West Main Street or Cedaredge Food Town at 210 SE Independence Avenue.
In addition to those who choose to enter the cook-off, anyone wishing to otherwise share their chili recipe is encouraged to donate their handiwork to help feed the crowd expected to attend the popular event.
Those wishing to donate are asked to bring their chili in its own heating unit to the fire house on the day of the event from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Those who can't make it to the chili fundraiser can still support the fire department with cash donations. Send checks to the Cedaredge Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 804, Cedaredge, CO 81413.
