Hotchkiss senior Kaiya Firor started the track season off with a record performance at the Delta Panther Invitational track meet. Firor, who set the meet record in the 400m dash as a junior, won the 200-meter dash, breaking both a personal and 2010 meet record with a time of 25.85 seconds. Firor also broke the school record of 25.95 set in 1997.
Firor also won the 100m hurdles event with a time of 16.85 seconds.
The 400m relay team of Adair Ela, Elsie Vasquez, Shay Glaser and Kaiya Firor posted a winning time of 52:80 seconds. The 800m sprint medley team of Lottie Hollembeak, Adair Ela, Indigo Miller-Barne and Elsie Vasquez won bronze with a time of 2:05.41.
In other individual events, freshman Karlie Egging held on to second place in the final three laps of the 1600m run. In the final 200 meters, Egging pulled ahead of Annelise Pelletier, but the Gunnison senior pulled ahead in the final steps to win with a time of 6:19.75, with Egging winning silver in 6:19.82.
Senior Katie Powers placed fourth in the 3200 with a time of 16:05.02.
The Hotchkiss boys won two individual events and scored 46 points to place eighth at Delta. Sophomore Robert Cochran won gold in the 400m dash with a time of 54.08 seconds.
Junior Jace Peebles won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.91 seconds; freshman Blaine Peebles won bronze in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.21, and Anthony Scanlon finished fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.96 seconds.
The 1600m relay team of Cochran, Peebles, Adam Smith and Micah Defield won silver with a time of 3:48.08.
