Cedaredge is the newest location for The First Tee, a program that introduces children to the game of golf, incorporates nine core values, and encourages healthy living habits through a physical education curriculum.
The local ladies golf league raised $4,000 with a charity golf tournament in September to bring this program to Cedaredge Elementary School. Additional monies will be used to offer free golf equipment to young golfers, support underprivileged kids with summer golf camps, and promote junior golf in the community.
Cedaredge Elementary School physical education teacher Amie Henderson has begun teaching the fundamentals of golf, and completed the course last week with a fun outdoor skill class on long distance hitting.
Volunteers from the men's and ladies clubs at Cedaredge Golf Club have assisted her. This is an opportunity for the golf community elders to partner with the youth and encourage them in learning golf skills.
