The Cedaredge Food Bank is once again planning to provide Christmas dinners for Surface Creek's disadvantaged neighbors. Last year 250 families received food boxes filled with an array of holiday provisions. A typical box includes a turkey or ham, potatoes, onions, fresh fruit, canned pumpkin, green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, dressing, and butter.
To fund this generous bounty, the food bank is again turning to the community for assistance. Thanks to community donations, Christmas boxes have been successfully distributed every year for the last ten years. Each box costs approximately $38 and donations in this amount or higher will help the food bank meet this year's distribution goal.
Donations for the Christmas project should be made by check and the check should be made out to the food bank's nonprofit entity, Surface Creek Community Services, and specifically marked for "Christmas Dinner Boxes."
The mailing address is: Surface Creek Community Services, PO Box 963, Cedaredge, CO 81413. For questions, the food bank phone number is 970-856-1125; email address is email@example.com.
Individuals who wish to receive a Christmas food box must sign up in advance by contacting the food bank to determine eligibility. Already 150 families have reserved a pick-up time. Christmas food boxes will be distributed to eligible individuals by appointment on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The food bank is located at 245 West Main Street in downtown Cedaredge. The non-profit service is operated entirely by volunteers and, during the distribution time, additional volunteers are always welcome to assist. To volunteer, contact the food bank at 970-856-1125.
