Frequent fliers should thank oil/gas

Dear Editor:

Every time I attend a rally against fracking and/or climate change, I am astounded by the number of people at these events who are talking either about a trip they just got back from, or one they are planning on making in the near future.

They seem not to realize that jet exhaust, plus the millions of acres of land paved over for runways and airport traffic, have anything to do with climate change. However, in a recent article in the Denver Post, the head of Greenpeace of Norway was quoted as saying that the growth of aviation in Norway, and worldwide, is one of the biggest drivers of climate change, "out of control."

If people are frequent fliers, it makes sense for them to forget worrying about climate change and instead thank the gas and oil industry for providing the petroleum products necessary for their many trips.
