Whether you're a master at the game of pool, or you just want to do something to support a good cause, hustle down to Thomas Waldo's this Saturday and support the fundraiser for Clarence "Bill" Hart.

Hart, a 15-year veteran officer on the Paonia Police Department, military veteran, husband and father of three, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 small-cell lung cancer.

Everyone is welcome to the event. Entry fee is $10, with registration beginning at 1 p.m. Prizes are yet to be determined, but most likely will be gift certificates, said Thomas Waldo's server/bartender Tina Lord.

Several businesses and community members have donated items to the fundraiser, including a carpet cleaning, a house cleaning and a massage, and several gift certificates. A drawing will be held for the donations. Tickets range from $5-$20 and coincide with items according to their value.

Revolution Brewing has donated a keg for the occasion, with all keg sales going to the Hart family, as well 25 percent of all bar sales for the day. The tavern also has a cash donation jar available at the bar.

Since it opened on New Year's Eve of 2006, Thomas Waldo's has held at least one fundraiser a year, said Lord. Its first fundraiser benefited people with multiple sclerosis, and it has helped numerous causes and citizens throughout the years. There's always something worth holding a fundraiser for, said Lord.

Donations are still being accepted and would be greatly appreciated ASAP to allow time to organize the drawing.

Following the tournament, karaoke by Dancing Monkey Entertainment begins at 9 p.m. Soups and sandwiches are available. For more information on the fundraiser, call 527-5797.

In addition to the fundraiser, an account has been established at the Hotchkiss and Paonia branches of First State Bank of Colorado under the names of Bill and Sam Hart. Donation jars are also set up at various businesses in both communities.
