On Christmas Day, members of the Cedaredge Rotary Club and other volunteers prepared a free Christmas dinner for over 300 people. The meal, served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., consisted of turkey, ham, and all the trimmings. Desserts lined three additional tables.
Donations collected at the door went to the cost of the food and scholarships for Cedaredge High School students.
The entire community was invited, with many coming to the event to be around their community neighbors if they couldn't be with family this year. "I thought of it as a good opportunity to be surrounded by love and laughter," said volunteer Carnie Baver.
Fellow volunteer Roberta Marean agreed, saying she thought of the event as a "good way to celebrate the holiday."
The dinner has been a community tradition since 2000. In 2013 the Rotary started partnering with the hosts, Les and Dorothy Mergelman, to pull off the growing event.
