The Council for Educational Travel USA (CETUSA) is seeking host families for international high school students. Barbra Campbell of Cedaredge is the local community coordinator for CETUSA. She helps place visiting international students with families throughout Delta County and neighboring communities. She has placed around two dozen students and her own family has hosted eight students. Past students have come from a variety of countries including Poland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Brazil.
In addition to furthering their education, students who come to western Colorado are seeking American experiences and host families help to accommodate those interests. Mike and Judy Mason of Cedaredge have hosted two students, a Polish boy in 2012 and a German boy in 2018, and their experiences have been positive. Before they moved to Hawaii, local residents Rush and Angela Schwarz hosted three exchange students and they also have fond memories of their role as a host family.
The placement season for the fall semester has drawn to a close, but in October Campbell will have new students in her database who are seeking to begin school for the spring semester as well as a new group seeking host families for fall 2019.
In order to serve as a host family, interested individuals must go through a vetting process which includes a home visit and an informal interview. Anyone wishing to learn more about serving as a host family is encouraged to contact Campbell at 970-812-6338.
